Celebrating our ‘Silver’ members: Morialta UC and Dawoodi Bohra Communities 5 October

On Sunday 5 October, the United Nations International Day of Older Persons, the Adelaide Dawoodi Bohras community prepared and presented an event at Morialta Uniting Church, Magill, to celebrate and honour the older members of both our communities, described as ‘Silver’ members on the day by the event’s vivacious leader, Nishrin Adenwala.
Claire Clutterham MP, the Member for Sturt, was an honoured guest, and spoke about the event in glowing terms in a Constituency Statement to federal Parliament this week – see the full Hansard report here. Claire noted that the ”partnership between the Dawoodi Bohras and the Morialta Uniting Church is a beautiful demonstration of interfaith connection.
These groups look different, have different native languages, dress differently and practise quite different faiths, but they see the value in these differences and they have a special bond that I have had the privilege of witnessing several times. Despite these differences, they are firmly united in their dedication to serving others.”
The event featured delicious food, games and conversation, and informative speakers on topics relevant to the theme of the day: Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights.
