A letter about the marriage law postal survey and respectful conversations.

Morialta remains “committed to being an inclusive Church that embraces LGBTIQ people as full members within the life of the Christian Church both locally and beyond”

Dear friends,
As you are all aware, the people of Australia are being asked for their opinion on what is being referred to as equality of marriage. Morialta Uniting Church has a long history of being an inclusive community and through our Social Justice Mission Ministry Team we are supporters of Friends of Unity, a group within the Uniting Church who stand with the LGBTIQ community. We are committed to being an inclusive Church that embraces LGBTIQ people as full members within the life of the Christian Church both locally and beyond.
While the Uniting Church provides no direction on how we should respond to the postal survey, our President and the Assembly have released discussion papers which may assist us in coming to a decision. Marriage equality is an issue that can divide us and hurt people we love, and Church Council commends the resources highlighted for us by our Moderator, Rev. Sue Ellis, in her message to us, available Here

If you would like an opportunity to share concerns or questions with others, our minister Bob Hutchinson or members of Church Council or the Social Justice Mission Ministry Team are offering to meet with individuals or small groups. Please contact the Church Office for dates and times if you are interested.
